Emily Meier, DVM

Dr. Emily Meier was born and raised in Waterloo, IA. When not studying, she spent her youth practicing martial arts and taking care of the several different species of family pets at home, which included rabbits, parakeets, finches, lovebirds, hamsters, gerbils, hermit crabs, guinea pigs, a leopard gecko, and several species of fish (just to name a few). She started working at Den Herder Veterinary Hospital as a member of the kennel staff and as a veterinary assistant in 2011. She majored in biology and earned minors in chemistry and religious studies from the University of Northern Iowa. She continued her education at Iowa State University College of Veterinary Medicine where she earned her DVM in 2021.

Dr. Meier lives with her husband, Ian; two children, Autumn and Abigail; their pet hedgehog, Mocha; and cat Hazelnut. Dr. Meier always knew that she wanted to be a veterinarian, and she loves treating all animals of every shape and size, with an emphasis on exotic species and wildlife. She eagerly accepts the challenge of encountering new species on a daily basis and expanding her medical knowledge in the process. She is always excited for the opportunity to learn new skills and serve the community through veterinary medicine. When not working at the veterinary hospital, Dr. Meier enjoys spending time with her family, exercising and staying active, cooking and baking.

She is excited to be back working at Den Herder Veterinary Hospital and is looking forward to continuing expanding her veterinary skill and serving the Cedar Valley.
