Jerry and Ronda Den Herder Say Thanks

Thank You to All Our Friends

Ronda and I would like to thank everyone for the tremendous outpouring of love and support since my stroke on December 8th.

It is hard to put into words how much your cards, notes, emails, and prayers meant to us both. I think our last count was over 670 cards! What a humbling notion to know we have so many people thinking of us and praying for us. It really is too much for words.

Please know each and every note meant the world to me. Your prayers were heard loud and clear.

I am happy to report I have been discharged from Cannon Falls as a patient! My time there was well spent. They say I made great progress and I agree. Cannon Falls really was a wonderful facility and I am grateful for their care.

Now I will be doing outpatient rehabilitation 2 days per week for the next 12 weeks at a clinic in Red Wing, MN. This is about 20 minutes from our condo in Lake City. Our plan is to spend most of our time in Lake City, but we hope to get to Waterloo from time to time. It is home after all.

As for my day-to-day life, I am doing quite well. I can walk with someone near my side. My right leg and foot continue to gain strength and function. I can lift my right arm and bend at the elbow. I am able to open and close my right hand slowly. Those nerves will be the last to fully “wake up”.

For the last of the updates, I have been discharged from both cognitive and speech therapy. Apparently, they think I know enough and can talk fast enough now!

From the bottom of our hearts, we are deeply touched by how you all have cared for us, prayed for us, and kept asking about us. Please know we are forever grateful and couldn’t have made it this far without you. We are both so thankful for all you have done.

To all of you—our clients, friends, staff—you are like family and it truly is a blessing to have you in our lives. God gave us everything we needed these past few months through each of you.

In Love and Friendship,

Jerry and Ronda
