Jordyn-Shaw

Jordyn

Started at Den Herder Vet: 2019
Where I’m From: Waverly, Iowa
Family: Mom and Dad (Ron and Jean Shaw) Three older sisters (Laura, Lindsey, and Rebecca) and an older brother (Michael) and THIRTEEN nieces and nephews!
Past Pets: I’ve had countless pets over there years, some of the best ones include Sunny my very first dog, Jerry, Libby, and Frankie who were all amazing dogs and Tilly my first horse
Current Pets: I currently have four dogs, Luna a 3 year old Old English Sheepdog, Morgan, a two year old Standard Poodle, and Monty, a two year old American Staffordshire Terrier and Waylon an almost two year old bluetick coonhound.

One piece of pet advice: One thing that I’ve learned over the year is that you always have to have patience with your pets! Even when they chew up all of your shoes and pee in your house. They may be only a part of your world, but to them, you are their whole world.
What’s the farthest away from Waterloo you’ve ever been? I went on a trip to Costa Rica back in high school and would love to go back sometime soon!

What do you do for the DHVH team? I’m a veterinary technician

Craziest or most unusual thing you’ve seen on the job?
There once was a dog that had come in for X-rays and we found he had about 20 BBs (from pellet guns) all throughout his body! He wasn’t painful or anything at the time we took the X-ray thankfully but still upsetting that someone would do that to the sweet pup!

What’s something about yourself that might surprise others?
I once got into an accident when I was riding my horse and I landed myself in the hospital. I had a really severe concussion, road rash, and a hematoma on my brain. The doctors said I was really lucky to be alive!

What’s something new you have learned recently?
I’ve learned so much since graduating college and starting at Den Herder, but I think the biggest thing that I’ve learned is to never take things for granted and take time to stop and smell the roses every once in a while.
